Victorian Christmas in Nevada City is celebrated on Wednesday night in early December and two Sunday afternoons in mid-December. Cornish Christmas in Grass Valley begins the Friday after Thanksgiving and continues every Friday night until 18 December. Admission to both celebrations is free, only joyful holiday spirit is needed.
Nevada City and Grass Valley are located at 2,500 meters elevation in the forested hills of northern Sierra Nevada. The cities are a gold rush hour (60 miles) northeast of Sacramento via Interstate 80 and Highway 49 north. Marysville and the north valley, take Highway 20 east. Reno and Tahoe, take I-80 west to scenic Highway 20.
Overnight visitors are encouraged to make an advance reservation. A dozen historic bed and breakfast inns and network of hotels and motels are located in Nevada City, Grass Valley, and neighboring communities.
